We need a time machine to go back to the 1950s to make sure this travesty never happens!

Go back to the 50's and set up an investment account for GE or something, then travel forward to like 2004 and buy/restore the property with your newfound b illions . Revive Packard as a Tesla-style electric car before Tesla is even a twinkle in Elon’s eye.

Set it to sometime in September 1954, warn James Nance that Studebaker had been cooking their books, so he could cancel the acquisition while there was still time.

Didn’t I hear that someone (Ford?) bought the plant and was going to revamp it - some sort of urban renewal project...or was that me mixing real life and The Soprano’s?

No, that’s the Michigan Central Station you’re thinking of. Ford bought that last year.

Studebaker sure did tank the Packard name... But Packard was doomed anyway and if it weren’t for the merger the last few years of excellence Studebakers probably wouldn’t have existed to usher Studebaker out with a bang

It hastened the inevitable. Packard had cash, no debt, and solid credit, so even operating at a loss, they could have kept on going for years sans Studebaker, maybe done at least one more total restyle.
